Alondra 2.0: free on WordPress.org, with Alondra Plus on top

Posted on 4 min read

Alondra 2.0 is out. From now on Alondra comes in two parts:

  • Alondra, the free plugin on WordPress.org, with everything you need for tiered pricing and quantity discounts.
  • Alondra Plus, a paid add-on that you install on top of it for percentage prices, priorities, advanced rule logic, more layouts, live prices and Product Bundles.

Why the split

Until now there was one paid plugin and a reduced free build of the same code. Keeping both in step slowed every release, and the free build could only ever be a cut-down copy. In 2.0 the free plugin is the whole foundation, built to be extended, and Alondra Plus adds its features on top through the free plugin's extension points. Free users get a complete plugin that stays free; Alondra Plus customers get the same features as before, on a base that is easier to keep up to date.

What's in the free Alondra 2.0

  • Fixed prices per quantity range, for products and variations, applied on the product page and in the cart.
  • Rules to target products, categories, tags, users or roles, in an editor that follows the WordPress admin, with drafts and trash.
  • A prices table on the product page, above the "Add to Cart" button or hidden, with clickable prices and the current price highlighted.
  • The product price shown according to the active rules.
  • Caching of price lookups in the WordPress object cache.

New in 2.0:

  • A settings page in Settings > Alondra: where the prices table shows, how it behaves, caching and uninstall cleanup, with the version, changelog, help, Ko-fi and a rating link in its footer.
  • A Settings link on the plugin's row in the plugins list.
  • Clearer rule matching: a rule that lists both categories and tags needs the product to match one of each, and a rule that lists both products or terms and users or roles needs both to match. A rule that fills in only one side works as before.
  • Fixes in the pricing group editor's search: products without a SKU, names containing & or #, and terms already picked no longer showing up again.
  • Round discounts shown at their real percentage in the prices table, instead of one point lower ("(9% off)" for a tier at 10% off).
  • Tested with WooCommerce 11.2.

If you use the free Alondra from WordPress.org, 2.0 arrives as a normal update and your pricing groups and settings are kept. Settings you made with code snippets are carried into the new settings page once.

What Alondra Plus adds

  • Percentage tiers, alongside fixed per-unit prices.
  • A priority for each pricing group, to decide which one wins when several match the same product.
  • ALL/ANY matching within categories, tags and roles, and AND/OR between categories and tags and between products and users or roles.
  • Pills and list layouts for the prices, picked from preview cards in the settings.
  • Nine positions for the prices table on the product page, or hidden.
  • Six colour settings and "Disable styles", to style the prices table with your theme.
  • Live price update as the quantity changes, and a total after the prices.
  • "Show as discount", which strikes through the regular price when a tier lowers it.
  • Tiered pricing for WooCommerce Product Bundles: price a product inside a specific bundle, or let a bundle's percentage tiers apply to its items.
  • A License & Account tab in Settings > Alondra, and PLUS with the version in the settings footer while your license is active.

Alondra Plus has a 7-day free trial (payment method required) and a 30-day money-back guarantee. See the plans and the comparison.

If your Alondra Plus license expires, the store works like the free plugin (percentage tiers stop applying and those quantities sell at the regular price), and your premium settings and rules come back as soon as you renew.

Using Alondra 1.x?

The paid Alondra 1.x plugin gets one last update, 1.1.2, with a notice that points here. Your 1.x license does not activate Alondra Plus: open a support ticket from your Freemius account and we send you a coupon with a 100% discount on the equivalent Alondra Plus plan, plus the add-on ZIP. Then follow Moving from Alondra 1.x to Alondra 2.0 and Alondra Plus; your pricing groups and settings carry over.
